Proud To Be A Certified B Corporation

As an independent, employee-owned and minority-owned company, we value traits like honesty, responsibility, and collaboration. And we continually look for ways to make delicious bread more sustainably, and mindfully. For us, becoming a Certified B Corporation was a natural and important step in our evolution as a company.

What It Means To “B”

Being a Certified B Corporation means that as a company we meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. It also means we join a growing global movement of people using their business as a force for good. And perhaps best of all, it means we continually challenge ourselves to think more holistically and mindfully – about the ways in which we interact with our environment, our employees, our communities, and our partners.

Socially Responsible & Environmentally
Sustainable Practices

We believe that making a better world begins with each of us making our own corner of it better. Here’s what that looks like:

As an independent, employee-and-minority owned company, every full-time employee receives:

  • Free bread for all employees
  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance plans available to all employees
  • Partial 401(K) company match
  • Domestic partner benefits
  • Up to 14 weeks paid maternity / paternity leave

  • We donate our overstock product to those in need through food banks and other food rescue programs.
  • We participate in local fundraisers every year in Chelsea.
  • We do the majority of our banking with a local, independently owned bank.
  • We’re proud to offer many first generation non-English speaking immigrants opportunities to work and learn here in the US.

  • We divert more than 99% of our waste from landfills by recycling, composting and turning food waste into animal feed.
  • We reduced our energy usage by half and achieved significant savings by switching to efficient lighting and motion sensors at both bakeries
  • We print marketing materials with a certified Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) printer that uses soy and vegetable-based inks exclusively.
  • We use corrugated shipping products made from 100% post consumer content.

  • Our higher purpose is to promote a way of doing business that’s responsible to and for people.
  • More than 50% of our management team has social and environmental goals tied to their job responsibilities and performance expectations.
  • We’re proud to have an open door policy that encourages communication and collaboration across the company.
  • We evaluate all significant suppliers on their employee and environmental practices to ensure they align with our Supplier Code of Conduct.
